Yakuza Kiwami 2 is getting ready to launch in the West, so with the new trailer posted, what can we expect of Yakuza Kiwami 2?
Fans of the Yakuza series already know that a Kiwami (English: Ultimate) version of a game is a remastered version. Sega is unique in using this term, but it just means remaster, and they truly remaster their games. It typically means improved resolution, frame rate increases, texture improvements, and faster or eradicated loading times compared to the original. However, the Yakuza Kiwami games go a step further and bring that dial to 11, as can be seen in this comparison of the first Kiwami.
For those who might not remember, Yakuza 6 and Kiwami 2 have already been released in Japan, but the release for the West is still around the corner. The trailer above gives us an extended look at the new remaster.
Something many don’t know is that Yakuza Kiwami 2 is being developed on the same ‘Dragon Engine’ that powered Yakuza 6. This means an improvement on the combat system and general gameplay elements in addition to a prettier game. It also brings with it enhancements from the other titles too, such as the Clan Creator tool. Even more, this remaster comes brings us a new story scenario to sink our teeth into.
Do you remember Goro Majima, the anti-hero we get to see in the Yakuza series as well as in the prequel? In this release of Yakuza 2, we get to play a scenario called “The Truth of Goro Majima”.
Barring any delays, Yakuza Kiwami 2 will launch exclusively on the PS4 August 28th later this year. Excited yet? What do you think? We definitely think remasters should be more like this where they get a lot of extra love instead of cheap ports called “Remasters” like Prototype or Assassin’s Creed…. and most remasters for that matter. By chance, have you played Yakuza Kiwami 2 in Japanese? If so, please share your thoughts in the comments below.
