Xbox One Alpha Update Adds Steam Feature “Game Gifting”

Xbox One’s Preview Program recently launched a new Alpha update, and with it brought a new feature many have been asking for. Game Gifting.

Have you ever had a friend or family member that had their own game account on an Xbox, PlayStation, or Nintendo platform and wish you could buy them a game you knew they wanted digitally? They’d log in and the first thing they saw was that they got a gift from you, and it just makes their day. Sadly, that’s only been a privilege of PC gamers on the likes of Steam and Origin.

Well, Microsoft is looking to change that with the Xbox One, as their Preview Program just rolled out a new update that will bring the feature to Xbox members. It was actually announced by the Xbox Corporate Vice President back in July, but is only now finally making its way to the platform.

Keep in mind this is only on the preview program, which means it’s in testing, so there isn’t any word on when it will be available to the masses, but soon is a good guess. We’re hoping Sony and Nintendo follow suit and make this seemingly basic feature a standard on their system.
