Seoul Dynasty lost to LA Valiant last night, and now the third Playoff seed is up for grabs. The Overwatch League now has five teams vying for that open spot in an intense affair that will likely come down to a tie-breaker.
Seoul Dynasty went into this week with the edge, sitting in that third seed spot. All they had to do was win both games and they were golden. But LA Valiant had other plans, and they knocked Seoul Dynasty off their pedestal with a convincing 3-0.
Every map counts now, as the standings are so close that the decision will likely come down to a tie-breaker. Ties will be decided by cumulative map differentials, head to head map differentials, and then head to head record. As of right now, Houston Outlaws have the edge, with a map differential of +14, but Valiant, Dynasty, and Uprising aren’t far behind, with +9, +8, and +7 respectively.
Teams that are out of the running, such as the San Francisco Shock and the Shanghai Dragons, now have the power to sway the hopes of the contenders. Taking even a single map off their opponents could decide the fate of the five teams vying for that playoff seed.
So be sure to watch the Boston Uprising vs Philadelphia Fusion today at 6pm as one of them will be knocked out of the running for that third spot. And don’t forget, London Spitfire hasn’t locked in their seed yet either. A loss to the Houston Outlaws could put them in danger, while a win for Houston could propel the Outlaws forward with their incredible map differential.
And if you don’t want to watch every game, I’ve already identified the key three games that will decide the fate of the playoffs. Dynasty vs Valiant was the first game, and it did not disappoint. You can find out about the other two games here.
