The Faction Rally begins next week, leaving players to wonder: how excited should we be?
Bungie released a schedule outlining the new features being rolled out in Destiny 2 over the course of September. Nightfall rotations and Xur visits are all standard fare to any veteran Destiny player, but there is one entry that has sparked speculation: “9.26 Tuesday… Faction Rally Begins.”
Factions, in and of themselves, are nothing new. In Destiny 1 they were essentially another set of vendors who would give players unique loot in return for allegiance. But with Destiny 2 revamping and refreshing so much of the Destiny 1 formula, and with a word like, “Begins” which implies, well, the beginning of something, players can’t help but wonder: will this be the beginning of a new era for factions?
Bungie hasn’t said a word yet about what the Faction Rally will be, but Guardians who have finished the story have already discovered the three new locations for the faction leaders. (The spaces for Dead Orbit and New Monarchy are subtle, but Future War Cult’s space is hard to miss.) For now, these spaces remain empty, without so much as a nameless NPC wandering their zones. Which begs the question: why?
If the new factions are simply going to be vendors as they were in the first game, why would Bungie wait until three weeks after launch to release them? Is it a simple case of not wanting to overwhelm the fanbase at launch? Or are the factions going to be a greater feature of the game, which requires its own mini-release?
At the end of the day, we cannot be certain until September 26th. In the meantime, what do you think? Will this be an event to bring the factions to life? Or will it be a fresh coat of paint on a new set of vendors? Let us know in the comments.
