Battle Royale modes are all the rage these days since the rise of PUBG. Well, developer Hi-Rez is not one to be left behind, and has announced a new Battle Royale mode for Paladins named Battlegrounds.
As we saw with Fortnite borrowing shamelessly from PUBG, and with how popular both have been it’s no surprise other games would want in on the action. Paladins already was a pretty blatant copy of Overwatch, even if they deny it, this next step just proves they borrow ideas from other popular studios.
However, that’s not necessarily a bad thing, popular game features, modes, and overall ideas are used to inspire all sorts of other games. If it wasn’t for Zelda or God of War we would never have had Darksiders, or if it wasn’t for Halo we wouldn’t ever have had regenerating health be in almost every game ever.
So with that said, Paladins: Battlegrounds is the cult hit mode of 100 player royale with every man for themselves. It’s likely the mode will get similar duo, quad and so on modes, but it’s also likely, as with Fortnite’s 50v50, that it will see some unique modes as well. The thing that caught my eye about the trailer though was that they regularly showed the world map, and not once did I see the “playable area” shrink like you see in PUBG and Fortnite.
The youtube video describes the game mode reads,
“An all-new game mode for Paladins – introducing Paladins: Battlegrounds! Welcome to the first-ever hero-shooter battle royale.”
Paladins released back in September of 2016, and has been quite successful since then. This new mode will allow you to take that Hero battle style into the Battle Royale mode and take your experience to the next level.
The new mode isn’t available just yet, but is coming sometime later this year. The main Paladins experiences is already available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
